The Story
Omotola Praise Ijaola, known as Fewa: a Nigerian singer-songwriter who writes about healing, hope, love and self-discovery, and designs the world her songs live in.
Chapter I
Where it starts
Fewa's musical life began in Kaduna, where she wrote and recorded songs for local artists before stepping forward with her own voice.
She started singing young, raised on a childhood soundtrack of R&B, jazz, pop, rock and soul. That range still shapes how she writes.
Chapter II
A chemist who sings
She went on to study Chemistry at Bayero University, Kano, and it was there that she began to stand out as a performer and songwriter.
Chapter III
2022
In March 2022 she released Serenity: two songs, Drown and Our Story, both written and performed by Fewa. Drown arrived with its own official video, the first piece of her visual world.
Chapter IV
2023 – 2024
Fall In followed in August 2023. Over the next year she widened the circle: Found Love with Eazy Bob Wizzy, Walkin Away with Logik Tha Pro, Oasis with Rico Maz and No Conditions, her first song with producer Afroselecta BBK.
Chapter V
2025
Dare To Say, released in April 2025, turned her songwriting outward, toward the everyday truths of life in Nigeria. Then came Rewind, her second EP: five songs about self-belief, love and growing up.
The Guardian Nigeria gave it 8/10. In December 2025 she headlined The Rewind Experience in Kaduna, bringing the record to the stage as an immersive live production.
Chapter VI
2026
In March 2026 the Rewind songs returned as Rewind (Live at Ilmi House), recorded with an audience. That spring she performed at Hertitude in Lagos and at Alte Culture Fest in Abuja.
How she works
Fewa writes songs that feel deeply personal yet easy to recognise yourself in. Originality comes before trends: the aim is music that leaves the listener feeling seen, understood and a little braver.
“a coming-of-age story of a young woman navigating life, love and self-development”
Beyond the music
Fewa is also a graphic designer and creates her own cover art, so her visual identity comes from the same hands as the songs.
She wrote a song for the Merck Foundation highlighting the resilience of women facing infertility, and supports women's and girl-child health initiatives in her community.
Off the clock: basketball, fitness, modelling, painting, poetry and reading.
